ACCC is an independent statutory authority for the Commonwealth that has economy-wide responsibility for competition and consumer protection. It conducts investigations of anti-competitive practices and consumer law violations, as well as regulates communication, transport and other infrastructure markets.
What they do
Conducts investigations regarding cartels, anti-competitive agreements, abuse of market power, and misleading or unconscionable conduct; merger assessments and authorizations; enforcement of Australian Consumer Law; product safety recalls and standards activities; price monitoring and market surveillance; and some infrastructure and communications regulation; and legal proceedings.
