Who they are

SFIO is a statutory multi-disciplinary body working within the ambit of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) of the Government of India. SFIO has expertise in the areas of accountancy, forensic audit, banking, law, IT, investigations, company law, capital markets, taxation, etc. SFIO conducts investigations only upon assignment from the Central Government under the Companies Act, 2013.


What they do

Undertakes investigations of complicated cases of corporate fraud as per Section 212 of the Companies Act, 2013. Undertakes investigations that include forensic accounting, computer forensics, finance, and legal examinations among other fields.

Prosecution: Files criminal complaints or makes recommendations for criminal prosecution before appropriate courts for people involved in corporate fraud. Undertakes investigations in accordance with referrals from the Central Government made through complaints by the Registrar of Companies (RoC), the Inspector General of Income Tax (IIT), or other government agencies of the Center or State Government, or when there is a public interest in conducting the investigations. Cooperates in the investigations with organizations such as MCA, RoC, ED, CBI, SEBI, RBI, FIU-IND, CBDT, CBIC, DRI, NFRA, etc. Identifies cases involving violations concerning financial fraud, manipulation of books of accounts, diversion of funds, shell companies, and white-collar crimes.
