Who they are

Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) is the autonomous regulator and supervisory body that regulates the capital markets of the State of Qatar. This was established in 2005 and further empowered through Law No. 8 of 2012 with additional enforcement powers. Its headquarters are located in Doha. QFMA is headed by its Chief Executive Officer, H.E. Dr. Tamy Bin Ahmad Al-Binali, while Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani serves as its Board Chairman, who acts to ensure macro alignment between the markets and the central banking system. As an Ordinary Member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), QFMA is the regulator of the international markets representing the State of Qatar. The jurisdiction of QFMA encompasses the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE), listed public shareholding corporations, brokers, and financial evaluators.

What they do

The Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) is responsible for regulation, licensing, and supervision of all the activities and securities transactions conducted in Qatar's capital markets [Law No. 8 of 2012]. Acting as an independent body of oversight, the authority formulates the rules and regulations under which the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) operates, guaranteeing market liquidity, efficient price discovery, and protection of investors. As per the modernized unified rulebook (Board Decision No. 8 of 2025), the QFMA controls the process of listing, issuance, suspension, and delisting of equities, debt instruments, and investment funds, and enforces mandatory corporate governance codes and bilingual disclosures on all publicly traded corporations. The authority licenses and conducts audits of market intermediaries such as brokerages and financial analysts and has the statutory right to conduct investigations into manipulation of markets or insider dealing, imposing public rebukes and financial sanctions. On an international scale, the QFMA is responsible for making sure that Qatar's capital markets meet global standards as set by IOSCO through electronic passporting systems.
