Who they are

The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Mauritius is the main government body responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the country's financial system from any criminal activities and other such illegal flows of funds. As an independent body corporate functioning within the Ministry of the Prime Minister's Office, it serves as the central point for collecting, analyzing, and distributing information in connection with the offenses of money laundering, terrorism financing, and proceeds of crime. It is a fully integrated component of the Egmont Group, which is a worldwide organization.

What they do

The Financial Intelligence Unit gathers and analyzes information related to financial crimes like money laundering, terrorism financing, and many others in Mauritius. As the central point for handling Suspicious Transaction Reports, the organization detects any illicit financial activities and forwards intelligence to law enforcement agencies for their investigation and asset recovery.
