Who they are

SEC Nigeria is an independent governmental body operating under the umbrella of the Federal Ministry of Finance, charged with overseeing and developing the capital market of the country. The commission operates under full corporate autonomy, and it acts as the main guarantor of the capital market integrity and safety of investors. All activities of the market players in terms of securities trading and investment projects should be conducted under transparent and regulated financial conditions that would stimulate economic development and capital formation.

What they do

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria is a regulator in terms of the registration, issuance, and trading of all public securities, as well as the monitoring of important market infrastructure such as the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) and clearing organizations. As part of its strict mandate on enforcement, the SEC registers, oversees, and implements the activities of CMOs, sanctions collective investment schemes, and enforces insider trading legislation to prevent any form of price manipulation. At the organizational level, the SEC is involved in the implementation of the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan (NCMMP), regulation of cryptocurrency and other digital asset exchange platforms, corporate disclosures through SEC Operator Portal, and sanctions against any form of unregistered investments.
