Who they are
CCI stands for the Competition Commission of India, which is an autonomous statutory body constituted by the Government of India through the Competition Act, 2002. The CCI comprises the Chairperson and Members appointed by the Central Government.
What they do
Undertakes investigation and prevents anti-competition practices through agreements, including cartels, bid-rigging, and collusions. Undertakes investigations into the abuse of dominant position in the market by way of unfair price discrimination. Undertakes investigations of mergers, acquisitions, and amalgamations that have adverse competition implications in India and decides whether to approve or prohibit those mergers. Promotes competition law knowledge among industries, governments, consumers, and academia. Carries out studies on sectors and markets with regard to competition concerns and policy improvement. Provides opinion on competition concerns referred to it by statutory authorities or the Central Government. Enforces monetary penalties, behavioral remedies, structural remedies, and compliance directions under the Competition Act.
