Indian Computer Emergency Response Team CERT-In
Who they are
CERT-In, or the Computer Emergency Response Team of India, is India's highest-ranking nodal agency that deals with protecting India's cyberspace. Officially set up in January 2004, CERT-In is located operationally in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). The team has been given strong statutory enforcement authority under Section 70B of the Information Technology Act 2000. CERT-In acts as the nation's control center for cyber defense and is responsible for collecting and analyzing cybersecurity incidents, providing threat warnings, and planning and conducting emergency response procedures for any active network compromise. Internationally recognized as India's official partner for international cyber-forensics cooperation, CERT-In ensures strict compliance directives such as a 6-hour time frame for reporting an incident and an 180-day system logs retention period in order to reduce vulnerability and combat ransomware attacks.
What they do
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) works round the clock as the national command center that handles any computer security incidents, helping secure India’s internet domain as well. Under its legal jurisdiction, the agency gathers, correlates, and analyzes information to provide forecasts about cyber risks, notes on vulnerabilities, and defensive alerts. In cases of urgent network intrusion, malware attack, or ransomware attack, CERT-In applies tactical measures and coordinates an operation in collaboration with various entities, both public and private. Moreover, CERT-In strictly enforces digital compliance laws like the 6 hours’ time limit for informing cybersecurity incidents and 180 days of data logging requirements, leading the implementation of CCMP nationally.
