Financial Intelligence Unit – India FIU-IND
Who they are
FIU-IND is an independent national Financial Intelligence Unit of the Department of Revenue of the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India. The FIU-IND operates under the Economic Intelligence Council (EIC) headed by the Finance Minister of the Union. FIU-IND is the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units representative from India.
What they do
Collects and analyzes Suspicious Transaction Report (STR), Cash Transaction Report (CTR), Cross-Border Wire Transfer Report (CBWTR), Non-Profit Organization Transactions Report (NTR), and other reports prescribed under the PMLA.
Supervision of AML/CFT: Supervises the compliance by reporting entities regarding record keeping, CDD, KYC, beneficial ownership, and reporting requirements under the PMLA. The Director, FIU-IND, undertakes investigations pursuant to Section 13 of the PMLA and may issue warnings, directions or financial penalties for non-compliance. Shares intelligence with domestic law enforcement, regulatory bodies, and other Financial Intelligence Units internationally to investigate and prosecute money laundering, terrorist financing, and related crimes. Coordinating with RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA, IFSCA, ED, CBDT, CBIC, DRI, and international FIUs to improve India’s AML/ CFT system. Sharing financial intelligence with FIUs of other countries under bilateral and multilateral agreements.
