Who they are

Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) is an independent regulatory organization in Egypt that has been mandated to regulate all financial markets and instruments except commercial banks. The FRA was created in July 2009 as per Law No. 10 of 2009, and operates independently under the chairmanship of its chairman, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, with full financial, technical, and administrative independence as provided for in the Constitution of Egypt. The FRA is a single regulator for the entire financial industry except commercial banks that are regulated by the Central Bank of Egypt. The Financial Regulatory Authority protects consumers and investors, enhances transparency in markets, and mitigates any risk present in different sectors such as EGX, insurance companies, mortgage financing, consumer finance, micro-financing, leasing, factoring, and venture capital firms.

What they do

Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) is an active regulator, licensor, and overseer of Egypt's non-banking financial industry, guaranteeing the stability of its market, transparency, and the protection of its consumers. FRA sets regulatory policies, compliance guidelines, and disclosure policies for the listed companies at the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), and monitors insurance companies, mortgage institutions, leasing institutions, and factoring institutions. In its role as a modern regulator, FRA develops framework parameters for microfinance, consumer finance products, and green bonds, but it also functions as the only licensor for financial services, brokers, and investment vehicles in Egypt. In order to maintain market integrity, FRA investigates cases of corporate fraud, settles disputes between investors/consumers, fights against money laundering in non-banking markets, and develops new regulatory codes for the integration of financial technologies into the national market.
